4oD/BBC iPlayer

I have used both of these catch up services to watch programmes I have missed in the past. These systems are really useful for people who miss programmes they really want to watch as it allows them to watch them again at any time. On advantage of used 4oD and BBC iPlayer is that they don’t show adverts so you can watch the programme undisturbed. There are some limitations though; the programmes are only available for around about 30 days and only stream channel 4 and BBC programmes. Overall both systems fulfil their purposes of allowing people to watch programmes at a later date.

Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming service that allows instant listening to specific tracks or albums with almost no buffering delay. I uses this programme all the time as it means I can listen to almost any song by any artist, it also means I don’t have to download music as I can keep my favourite ones in playlists that I can listen to at a later date. The advantage of Spotify is that it is really simple to use and you can search for albums, artists or specific songs. One disadvantage is that after each song there a short adverts which does disrupt listening.

YouTube

YouTube is a video sharing site that allows people to watch user generated video content, TV and movie clips, music videos and amateur video blogs. I use YouTube because it enables me to watch almost anything. YouTube is so well known it means that almost anything is uploaded on to it, giving me wide chose of video to watch. YouTube also allows users to add comments to videos and give a rating which is useful as it means people can discuss and express their views easily. One disadvantage of YouTube is that there are so many videos uploaded daily it is difficult to find something original. Also many music tracks are leaked onto YouTube which is a disadvantage to the artist. YouTube fulfils its purpose.

Facebook

Facebook is a global social networking site that allows users add friends, create profiles about themselves, update statuses, view videos and photos and join larger networks. I use Facebook as a way of communicating with friends and viewing photos. Facebook fulfils its purpose as a way of communicating as there are many routes to go down to communicate with people such as facebook chat, personal message and wall to wall chat. The disadvantage of facebook is that sometimes it is abused and also sometimes there are problems in which it goes down.
